Apron Project

Safety and resilience upgrades underway

From November 2024 to late 2025, we’re rebuilding the airport apron to ensure a safer, higher-quality experience for everyone. The new design will streamline terminal access for all airlines and extend the covered walkway for added comfort. With the apron nearing the end of its life, this replacement is vital to safeguard both current and future airport operations.

A redesigned stand arrangement means passengers can look forward to a more convenient and consistent experience boarding and disembarking, regardless of which airline they choose. We're also extending the covered walkway from the terminal toward the south to provide shelter and comfort for everyone accessing the southern stands.

The apron will be rebuilt in six stages, and includes climate resilience improvements through an upgrade of ageing stormwater infrastructure.

There are likely to be changes to carparking and pedestrian access to the terminal, as well as to passengers’ boarding and disembarking experience while construction takes place. Thanks for your patience and understanding for the temporary disruption.

Airport Perimeter Walkway - Partial Closure

A 1.4 kilometre section of the walkway is closed to the public while the works take place. This is an essential safety measure while a large volume of construction traffic is using the road to access the work site and transport materials.

The P180 carpark prior to the airport entry barrier arms is also closed. A pedestrian/cyclist corridor will be maintained through this carpark to accommodate walkers and cyclists using the Jenkins Creek bridge to access the airport precinct, and there's alternative walkway parking on McLaren Drive.

The map below shows the closed area in red.
