APRON PROJECT
From November 2024 to September 2025, we will carry out a near-full reconstruction of the apron to ensure a safe, high-quality environment for airport operators and passengers now and in the future. The apron is nearing the end of its life, and requires replacement to safeguard current and future airport operations.
One important outcome of this work is a redesigned stand arrangement that provides more streamlined access to the terminal for all airlines. This means passengers will experience a more convenient and consistent experience boarding and disembarking, regardless of which airline they choose to fly with. We will also be extending the covered walkway from the terminal further to the south to provide shelter and comfort for people accessing the southern stands.
The apron will be rebuilt in six stages, including replacement of an old concrete stormwater drain.
There are likely to be changes to carparking and pedestrian access to the terminal, as well as to passengers’ boarding and disembarking experience while construction takes place. We appreciate your patience and understanding for the temporary disruption. You can read more about the project in our media release.
Airport Perimeter Walkway - Partial Closure
A 1.4 kilometre section of the walkway is closed to the public while the works take place. This is an essential safety measure while a large volume of construction traffic is using the road to access the work site and transport materials.
The P180 carpark prior to the airport entry barrier arms is also closed for the duration of the works. A pedestrian/cyclist corridor will be maintained through this carpark to accommodate those that walk/cycle across the Jenkins Creek bridge to access the airport precinct, and there is alternative walkway parking on McLaren Drive.
The map below shows the closed area in red.
Construction Staging Overview
The work will take place in six stages, moving from south to north.
